Antony Wynn: The Travels of Cecil Edwards in Iran 1911-1922
April 21, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Cecil Edwards, author of the classic The Persian Carpet went to Iran in 1911 from Smyrna to open up business in Persian carpets for the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers Company. Basing himself in Hamadan, he travelled all over the carpet weaving parts of Iran, taking photographs as he went, with the intention of using them for his book. In 1922 his house burned down, with his manuscript, but many of the photographs survived and are now held in the V&A.
This talk will be not so much about carpets as about the lives of the people who made them and the landscape they lived in.
This lecture will be live at the Army & Navy Club, for members of the Iran Society.
Antony Wynn represented the Oriental Carpet Manufacturers in Hamadan from 1973-76.
The lecture will be held at the Army & Navy Club and is open to members and their guests.
